For this renovated unit in Altona North our clients wanted the ultimate courtyard to fill the cosy and sun-filled space. They wanted to maximise the space they had available to create an entertaining zone where they could enjoy a glass of wine or alternatively a quiet space to enjoy a book and a cup of coffee.
Crazy bluestone paving brings a touch of character into the courtyard and spotted gum bench seats provide a space to entertain and reflect. The bench seats were built with storage lids to store outdoor cushions. Custom made screens were built to block out the close proximity of the neighbours and will only look better with age when the creeper starts to grow up the mesh. Rendered planter boxes and beautiful flowers and trees were planted to brighten up the space. A spotted gum deck was built around the sideway where the clothes line and back door are placed. We planted bamboo so that it would form a screen between the fence and the deck. Finally, a rustic custom made gate was built to bring a modern, urban edge to the courtyard.
This project was designed by our director, Blair Edwards.
